Celebrating Asian Pacific Islander Heritage

API Heritage Month Celebration marks the beginning of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month of May, which was designated in 1992 by Congress in the Greater Seattle area. The annual event occurs at the Seattle Center at the beginning of May celebrating the culture, traditions, and history of Asian Pacific Islanders through art, music, and dance.

The Puget Sound Clean Air Agency looks forward to participating every year in the annual API Heritage Month Festival. It is always a vibrant community event and this year was no different. A humbow eating contest, a Tahitian choir, and a K-pop performance were some of the many highlights at Seattle Center.

The Agency’s outreach table was in a prime location and hundreds of people stopped by this year. The Clean Air Superhero capes were especially popular. We also had several conversations about the Agency’s air toxics study in the Chinatown-International District. The study is translated in seven different languages, making conversations and materials more relevant.
