Strategic Plan (2014-2020)

The Agency's Board of Directors adopted the 2014 to 2020 Strategic Plan (PDF) in the Spring of 2014. The plan outlined the methods to use to achieve clean healthy air for everyone in our jurisdiction, all the time.

Planning for the next Strategic Plan

In April 2021, the Agency began discussions to develop its next strategic plan.  

The links below show materials from the Agency's Board of Directors meetings on this topic. We will continue to update this list as the process continues. 

  • April 2021 Board meeting – Initial discussion of new strategic plan timeline and process, and “State of the Airshed” overview. The “State of the Airshed” is a series of briefings that summarize lessons learned under the 2014-2020 strategic plan. Video recording here (discussion starts at 50:50). 
  • May 2021 Board meeting – Discussion of input received from the Board and Advisory Council on the new plan's timeline and process, and initial “State of the Airshed” briefing. This briefing covered the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) health-based national ambient air quality standards, and how the Puget Sound region’s air quality compared to those standards from 2014-2020.   • June 2021 Board meeting Discussion on the Agency's timeline to update the strategic plan and second "State of the Airshed" briefing. This briefing covered how the Agency fared in its objectives to reduce transportation emissions and address climate change. Video recording here (discussion starts at 47:00). 
  • July 2021 Board meeting Discussion on the framing of upcoming strategic plan community engagement and the third "State of the Airshed" briefing. This briefing covered the Agency's compliance and stationary source objectives, including asbestos, complaints, and permitting processes. Video recording here (discussion starts at 33:00).
  • September 2021 special Board meeting Discussion on the selection of a community engagement consultant and the fourth "State of the Airshed" briefing. This briefing covered the Agency's efforts to reduce exposure to wood smoke, including the Agency's wood stove replacement program, and objectives to accurately characterize and communicate air quality information.   • September 2021 Board meeting Discussion on the fifth "State of the Airshed" briefing, which covered the Agency's equity and environmental justice objectives, including reducing inequities in air pollution exposure and engagement with the public on air quality issues.   • October 2021 Board meeting - Discussion on the last "State of the Airshed," covering the Agency's "Excellence in Action" objectives, including attracting and retaining staff, cultivating an internal culture centered on equity, financial accountability and transparency, and the Agency's own environmental sustainability.
